Experiment 04: Make a splash!

Post by photoken »

To celebrate the release of PL 19, I thought it would be fun to stage a somewhat goofy Experiment:

A nice feature of PL is that it uses a normal PLD file for its Splash/About screen. So, how have you customized your Splash screen?

Because any creativity needs some limits to work against, here are the only rules for the Experiment:
  • The overall size must be the same as the default -- 640px by 400px. (Landscape or portrait orientation, the choice is yours.)
  • It must include the following text items:
    • The product name.
    • The product version number.
    • The "64 bit" indication.
    • The address text.
    • The copyright information.
Other than that, the sky's the limit!

The splash screen is the "PhotoLine.pld" file in the \PhotoLine\hlp directory. When you've got something that works, use Help...About to display the screen and hit your Alt+PrtSc keys to copy it to the Clipboard from where you can paste it into PL to save as an image for the forum.

Show as many examples as you want -- this Experiment should be a nice change of pace and a good excuse to use some of those PL features you've always wondered about.... :)

Me? Welllllll...I kind of like having Cheryl Tiegs greet me by name whenever I start PL  :

You don't understand -- that's Cheryl Tiegs, so no criticism allowed.

Sorry, dude, but the content was benign enough to be sold on public newsstands by a mass-market consumer publication like Sports Illustrated, so it's certainly appropriate for a public forum on the Internet.... 8)

It could be criticized for objectifying women. Many of them will probably like it very much, but that's a different story.

Oh yeah, it certainly was. :)

And it was an informative exercise, too -- the only image I was able to find had what seemed to be a very noticeable screen pattern. I threw everything I had at it: Fast Fourier Transform (which helped a little), and various PL functions for denoising and screen removal, etc. It came down to having to compromise between reducing the screen pattern while still retaining the sharpness of the details in her hair and face....

Here's something I put together to get some practice with the Distort Tool, as well as with the usual perspective adjustments in the Layer Tool:
