Affinity acquired by Canva

Post by Herbert123 »

Well, that didn't take long. It is clear that Affinity is going down the subscription route now.

I expect this will be good news for PhotoLine in the upcoming year. Quite a few Affinity users already on the lookout for alternatives.

Yup, that's interesting. But who knows how long the brand »Affinity« will remain. Remember Macromedia »FreeHand«? It just disappeared in Nirvana after Aldus Corp acquired it. Same fate hit »Pagemaker.«

I tried Affinity, but never got used to it. Clunky, complicated, and only fast with small files as in the training videos. With huge files, it produced hiccups. Besides this, they never managed to export an image in the same folder as the original.

PL is faster (opening files 10 times faster), writes any file format to the originating folder and is much more precise.

PageMaker was an »original«, InDesign was a mess. I switched to Scribus which delivered a much more precise output. I never really used Affinity Publisher because the output had too many errors (PDF/X-3 and X-4).

Update: Just noticed that Canva Pro (btw, why not the correct term »Canvas«?) costs 110 € per year. For some kinky stuff which you have to use online… The world is getting more absurd every day, and I am so tired of all this bs.
